Course Description
This is a comprehensive course that aims to equip health care organization personnel involved in handling medical records and managing the medical records unit. It covers the principles, evolving functions, and challenges of medical records management and includes practical applications of medical records analysis, ICD-10 coding, and hospital statistics computation and report preparation.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the participants should be able to:
- Describe the evolving Philippine health care delivery system as it affects medical records management;
- Describe the functions and responsibilities of the medical records unit and the various methodologies used to collect, process and store health information in the hospital;
- Demonstrate competency in computing, interpreting,
analyzing and utilizing hospital statistics;
- Describe common issues in the management of medical records;
- Describe the concepts and principles of developing the hospital information system.
Course Strategy
A combination of teaching methods will be employed to ensure optimum learning and encourage maximum participation. There will be lectures, group discussions, actual field visit to a medical records unit, computations, ICD-10 coding exercises.
