Aims

At the end of the course, participants will be able to

 

  1. Make laboratory-based diagnosis of AIDS-related protozoa that cause opportunistic infections among HIV/AIDS individuals using conventional techniques, special staining method, and high-tech tools
  2. Select the appropriate diagnostic tool for each part of the world
  3. Exchange experiences and network among each other

  1. Overview of AIDS-related protozoan infections
  2. Recent diagnostic methods for AIDS-related intestinal protozoan infections
  3. Demonstration of AIDS-related protozoa slides
  4. Practice of simple stool examination
  5. Special staining methods for Coccidia and Microsporidia
  6. Practice of special staining methods and microscopic examinations
  7. Diagnosis of toxoplasmosis
  8. Practice on Sabin-Feldman Dye Test for Toxoplasma serology
  9. PCR technique for diagnosis of AIDS-related protozoa
  10. Practice of PCR techniques (Cryptosporidium/Toxoplasma)
