Aims
At the end of the course, participants will be able to
- To improve participants knowledge of the management of severe and uncomplicated malaria in the well-equipped hospital and in places with limited facilities
- To update knowledge of anti-malarial drugs used in treating severe malaria
- To review, and train participants in, the laboratory diagnosis of malaria
- To ensure that participants understand the recent pathogenesis of malaria

- Malaria diagnosis and treatment at field level
- Malaria control programs
- Diagnosis and management of severe and uncomplicated malaria
- Pathophysiology of malaria and severe malaria
- Pathology: gross, light and electron microscopy of falciparum malaria
- Guidelines for diagnosis and assessment of severe malaria
- Immunology of severe malaria
- Anti-malarial drug treatment
- Management of cerebral malaria
- Management of renal failure, metabolic and electrolyte disturbance
- Management of pulmonary edema
- Management of other complications of malaria
- Management of severe malaria in children and during pregnancy
- Management of severe malaria in areas with limited facilities
