Aims
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the importance of entomological surveys in epidemiology, surveillance and control
- Describe the main types of mosquito surveys
- Demonstrate the techniques used in collecting mosquito vectors
- Perform correct field collections of mosquito vectors
- Preserve mosquito specimens and establish mosquito collections
- Describe mosquito colonization techniques
Content
- An overview of important mosquito-borne diseases, mosquito biology and ecology, mosquito control and entomological survey methods
- Adult mosquito collection techniques, identification, transportation, colonization and specimen preparation
- Manipulation of field entomological data
- Importance of mosquito control for mosquito-borne diseases prevention
- Implementation of an entomological survey in local villages
