Aims

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

 

  1. Explain the importance of entomological surveys in epidemiology, surveillance and control
  2. Describe the main types of mosquito surveys
  3. Demonstrate the techniques used in collecting mosquito vectors
  4. Perform correct field collections of mosquito vectors
  5. Preserve mosquito specimens and establish mosquito collections
  6. Describe mosquito colonization techniques

 

 

Content

  1. An overview of important mosquito-borne diseases, mosquito biology and ecology, mosquito control and entomological survey methods
  2. Adult mosquito collection techniques, identification, transportation, colonization and specimen preparation
  3. Manipulation of field entomological data
  4. Importance of mosquito control for mosquito-borne diseases prevention
  5. Implementation of an entomological survey in local villages
