Basic Course on Developing Skills for Qualitative Data Analysis

Background and Course Description


This present  course was developed out of the expressed need of the previous participants who attended the basic course on developing skills for data collection and wanted to hone their skills in analyzing qualitative data generated from interviews and focus group discussions. Hence, the College of Public Health, UP Manila and the SEAMEO-TROPMED Network are co-offering a basic course on developing skills for data analysis and an appreciation of the basics of writing a qualitative research report.  A step by step process of doing data analysis from coding, categorizing, thematic analysis, writing analytic memos, using the manual method or aided by a computer software will be used.


Course Objectives:


At the end of the course, participants  will be able to:

  1. review the basic concepts, uses and principles  of qualitative research;
  2. review the different qualitative research methodologies and the types of data generated by each method;
  3. perform open and axial coding and categorizing (manually and using a software)
  4. write analytics memos;
  5. gain appreciation of how to write a qualitative research report.
